Sunday was the last day for the Steven Knapp "Lightpaintings" exhibit at the Dayton Art Institute, so I braved the 27 degree weather to go see it, and I am so glad I did. The paintings were amazing!
Each one is a series of dichroic glass panels held in place by chrome brackets, lit by a single LED light. The effect was spectacular. I would say they definitely crossed into sculptural territory- the 3D installation is meant to be viewed from the sides as well as from the front.
The paintings are mesmerizing in person in a way that can't really be caught on film, but I did take a few pictures...
